DESIGN CUSTOMS: TALKING ABOUT DIGITAL INNOVATION AT MDF ITALIA

02-12-2016

MDF Italia and Paola Silva Coronel introduce digital innovation for customized interiors.

MDF Italia, over its twenty-year path in the field of technological research and product innovation, hosted, on December 1st in its showroom in Via della Chiusa, the “Design customs: digital innovation for customized interiors” event by architect Silva Paola Coronel who, since Salone del Mobile 2015, started an experimental project for design product customisation by using digital embroidery. A technique that, up to now, has been applied almost exclusively in the fashion world.
The project was highly appreciated on XXI Triennale “21st century Design after Design”, during which architect Coronel presented, at Palazzo della Triennale Milan, from June 22nd to July 31st, “rosae, rosarum, rosis” installation, whose protagonist was a specimen of MDF Italia’s MIA armchair, featuring digital embroideries, the project’s subject.
This was the debut of the experimentation path the company started with the architect, in the belief that, to stimulate new ideas and new paths, it is essential to offer fertile soils, generating opportunities to develop ideas. During the meeting, Silva Paola Coronel introduced plenty of customisations on some of MDF Italia collection icons - Yale sofa and armchair, Flow Slim chairs, PAD armchairs - using the original graphical sign of MDF Italia Random bookcase as identifying element. Then the relating production techniques and digital embroidery modes of use even for considerable thickness, such as a 5 mm leather were described.
A nice evening spent with many architectural studios and journalists who talked about new design horizons.
